Front line #1 and #2 stand abreast waiting to see which side of the court offense is initiated. Why? In the 2*-3 the 'up position' is now reverse. #1 or #2 will be up if ball is brought down center of the court. This eliminates 2 playing 1 and will dictate which back covers the wing area.
Wing Up
#1 − Moves up to become point as in 3-2
#2 − Drops to elbow – becomes wing as in 3-2Wing Up Alternate

Here #2 becomes up man and #1 drops to wing.

#3 − Cheats up for he has next pass to his side

#3 − Moves up to 'bother C' does not need to crowd him
#2 − Drops to elbow for a 'pause' at high post area
#1 − Slides and straddles foul line (facing ball) in front of basket moves to elbow area as in 3-2
#4 & #5− Slide to cheat positionBump Down Move
Since we want to maintain our 2-3 balance, that is keeping back and front line together, one must get #3 out of the wing area to regroup with #5 and #4. #2 after pause will move out and crowd C as in normal wing coverage. #3 drops back (facing ball) ready to cover corner pass.2-3 Zone, C-A
C to A
#1 − Moves to opposite shoulder of A
#2 − Moves to elbow
#4 − Moves to cheat position
#3 & #5− Slide across to backline position2-3 zone, A-B Pass
A to B
#1 − Drops to elbow – pauses then moves to cover B initiating 'bump down move'
#4 − After 'showing defense' drops back to backline completing 'bump down move'
#2 − Moves to foul line at basket level (facing ball) will then move to elbow area as #1 and #4 perform bump down move
