2-3 Zone Introduction

Thanks to Sysko's Sports Books and Videos at   http://www.syskos.com

Front line #1 and #2 stand abreast waiting to see which side of the court offense is initiated. Why? In the 2*-3 the 'up position' is now reverse. #1 or #2 will be up if ball is brought down center of the court. This eliminates 2 playing 1 and will dictate which back covers the wing area.

Wing Up

#1 −   Moves up to become point as in 3-2
#2 −  Drops to elbow – becomes wing as in 3-2

Here #2 becomes up man and #1 drops to wing.
Note: Your decision to vary front up position will depend on offensive tactics and strengths or you may vary so defense is not predictable.

2-3 Zone, A-C Bump Down

2-3 Zone Bump Down

A to C

#3 −   Moves up to 'bother C' does not need to crowd him
#2 −   Drops to elbow for a 'pause' at high post area
#1 −   Slides and straddles foul line (facing ball) in front of basket moves to elbow area as in 3-2
#4 & #5−   Slide to cheat position

Bump Down Move
Since we want to maintain our 2-3 balance, that is keeping back and front line together, one must get #3 out of the wing area to regroup with #5 and #4. #2 after pause will move out and crowd C as in normal wing coverage. #3 drops back (facing ball) ready to cover corner pass.

2-3 Zone, C-A

C to A

          #2 −   Moves to elbow
#4 −   Moves to cheat position
#3 & #5−   Slide across to backline position

2-3 zone, A-B Pass

A to B

#1 −   Drops to elbow – pauses then moves to cover B initiating 'bump down move'
#4 −   After 'showing defense' drops back to backline completing 'bump down move'
#2 −   Moves to foul line at basket level (facing ball) will then move to elbow area as #1 and #4 perform bump down move
#3 & #5−   Maintain backline position
