Chapter 3 - Section 2

X Move for Backline

An alternative move in covering wing by backman and having him return to backline position, can be achieved through X move both deep or shallow. While move may appear difficult to execute, the opposite is true, and one should remember that the offense must quickly recognize this move; be assured, many do not.

Here #3 maintains defensive position on B as #1 holds position on high post defense, thus the bump down move is not in force.

B to D

          #5 −   Moves to cover D
#4 −   Covers low post area
#3 −   Drops steps and moves across lane to opposite side for rebounding and regrouping
#1 −   Here is shown moving out to block lane, however, you can have him 'box it'.
#2 −   As #1 moves, he also moves to cover high post.

Note:  If #1 'boxes it', #2 drops back for diagonal.
